Are laws regarding free speech and harassment considered relevant as they pertain to matters of religion in the workplace and other public places?

Will I be dealing with legal issues such as divorce, child custody, bankruptcy, and criminal activities?

As a Community Chaplain, how can I be effective without infringing on the legally protected rights of others?

While this subject is covered in detail in Chapter 17 of the Community Chaplain Handbook, we feel that there is a growing acceptance of faith in many places and communities throughout America. The free exercise of religion is the first and most fundamental right of Americans protected in the Bill of Rights. Relax and feel confident that the learning materials that you receive in the Community Chaplain Empowerment Kit will equip you to handle the challenges you may face. Finally, and most importantly, do not push your faith on others. Wait for the opportunity to share WITH PERMISSION.

Will I be dealing with legal issues such as divorce, child custody, bankruptcy, and criminal activities?

Yes, these issues can arise and we realize that these are areas where most of us have limited exposure. The unfamiliar can be intimidating; but time and experience, with reliance on the Holy Spirit for guidance will help allay these fears. The Community Chaplain Handbook, the Empowerment Audio Series and the shared experiences of fellow chaplains will help guide you in this area of your ministry.
